"The Warning" and "Maria Divine Mercy"; False private Revelations; an increasing danger?

As readers of this blog can see, I am not against private revelations. In fact, theologically and purely on a Scriptural basis, we cannot dismiss mystical experiences from Christian Tradition and hagiography. To deny the miraculous, mystical and ecstatic aspects of personal faith and religious experience is simply dishonest. There are numerous examples from the Scriptures of such things which have been of central importance to the early spread of the Gospel (e.g. Saul's experience on the road to Damascus). There are, as we know "authenticated" apparitions of Our Lady (this just means, "worthy of belief" - as far as the Magisterium will go as regards public statements). Popes have signalled, time and again, their belief in certain revelations and apparitions (e.g. Pope Pius X11 and Fatima, Blessed Pope John Paul 11 and the Divine Mercy). In these times, when there is so much turmoil in the world and at a time in our Christian history when we are receiving, almost every day, reminders of certain apparitions, "messages" and locutions (e.g. those given to Don Stefano Gobbi)  there is a possibility that there will be more and more false "messages", so-called apparitions and the like. One of the worst of the current bunch is from someone called "Maria Divine Mercy". These things are well produced on the internet and books have been published. A few Catholic commentators have criticised them and warned us against them. Some devotees of this (MDM) person have tried to link Vassula Ryden with these "messages". Vassula has strongly repudiated this and wants nothing to do with MDM or anyone else offering dubious, lurid "prophecies" about future events. Those who read the TLIG messages (or for that matter the locutions given to Fr. Gobbi) know that we have been warned not to give credence to so-called revelations which claim to know, in some detail, when certain things are going to happen (even if this is given as, "within a few weeks" or "months"). Here is a good article by Dr. Mark Miravalle, a respected theologian from U.S., warning us against the writings of "Maria Divine Mercy" (on the internet known as "The Warning");

  1. I have been reading the messages to Fr.Gobbi since 1988.

  2. Do not judge a prophet he spreads the word of god test him and look at his fruits and then you can tell. Nobody is worthy enough to say that the word of Jesus is false because that is theological pride. What if you judged a true prophet and you made a mistake? If it is a false prophet he will be judged and revealed by God himself.

  3. No "Anonymous" you are mixed up about this. We do judge according to fruits and some of the "fruits" of MDM are already bad...divided prayer groups, confused people (one person reported a demonic attack because of it). If the so-called prophet is speaking against catholic doctrine that is already a very bad sign, and if some prophecies made have not come true....there is nothing more to be said.

    1. Father, you said, "If the so-called prophet is speaking against catholic doctrine...". Can you tell me specifically where this occurred in the Messages? You also said, "...if some prophecies have not come true...". Which prophecies have not come true? Have you read the Messages?

  4. Thank you for posting on this false seer, Father. There are numerous contradictions in her messages and many contrary to Catholic teaching. In my own small way I am helping souls turn away from this strangely popular false apparition and have written about it in an article linked below. The Slovakian Conference of Bishops has already condemned her messages as heretical and it has been reported that the Melbourne, Australia Archdiocese has sent their parishes warning letters against this falsity. Numerous reputable priests and theologians have written against her. Catholics who follow her messages and agree with them must then be agreeing that Pope Francis is an "imposter", "false prophet", and even "anti-christ". Believing this puts one into a state of schism with the church. http://www.miraculousrosary.blogspot.com/2013/02/maria-divine-mercy-deception-of-satan.html

  5. Have those of you who are denouncing Maria Divine Mercy read all of the message? I can see where you would say these false comments or distorted information because Jesus does talk about people like you. You have to read the messages to know what He says. He warns you. Contrary to Catholic Teaching? Would that be God's teaching, Jesus' teaching, or man's teaching. Remember in the Acts of Apostles after the death of Jesus when the Disciples are dragged before the Sanhedrin and told to quit talking about Jesus and a wise man said that they should be quiet because if the Disciples were preaching the truth it is better to be quiet than to offend God. And then, of course, should the Disciples quit talking about Jesus or follow the orders of the Sanhedrin? Maria Divine Mercy is not a seer. She has been called by Jesus, His End-Times Prophet. I have read every single message -- soon to be 3 years worth. I found them Dec 2012 and couldn't read them fast enough. I learned more about being a Catholic in this short time than 60 years of life. Jesus also told us 1-year-to-the-day before Pope Benedict resigned that "he would be ousted". How so? It may have something to do with the Masonic infiltration of the Vatican. So which side are you on? Jesus' or the Mason infiltration side. And yes, that would mean that Pope Francis may be the false prophet.

  6. Cathie, you are not recognising some vital facts. First of all, these revelations of MDM contradict other revelations given to other so-called prophets etc, one of which was recently canonised...St. Hildegard. In her revelations the "false Pope" is NOT a reigning, duly elected "Pope" but one who seeks to oust a reigning pontiff. This has nothing to do with the scenario re Benedict and Francis. if there is to be a "false" pope it will not be one that is duly elected according to the carefully arranged method of the Church. Pope Francis is duly and authentically elected. Secondly, there are numerous theological and practical errors in her "messages" as well as stuff that has clearly been lifted from other writings. Some theologians and bishops are now becoming aware of this and writing about it...e.g. Prof. Mark Miravalle. Thirdly, the designation of the "Prophet of the End Times" is one that others have claimed including a curious gentleman on YouTube who seems to be right about so many things and seems to have some incredible insights but who, in the end, has been shown to be false. How many so-called "Prophets of the End times" are there, and how do we know who is who? One clear way is to find out who these people actually are...their background etc and whether they have the support of bishops and experienced priests etc. Who is MDM? Who is her bishop? Does she have a spiritual director and who is he? Where does she live?

  7. There is no such thing as a false pope if by that you mean a heretical pope, one who would subvert the Catholic doctrines. Historically, the Church has taught that a Pope who enters into heresy while in office automatically excommunicates himself latae sentenciae and ipso facto loses his pontificate. He immediately ceases to be pope and can now be judged. This is the teaching of the Fathers of the Church, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Robert Bellarmine and other doctors of the Church. Any who doubts the indefectibility of the Catholic church will entertaain such nonsense as a false prophet being canonically elected and remaining a pope while being heretical.

  8. the question whether MDM is true or false can now be answered. The message of 22/7/13 states "there can only be one head of the church on earth, autherised by my Son, who must remain pope until his death. Anyone else, who claims to sit in the seat of Peter, is an imposter". So the quetion is, what does canon law state whether a pope may retire and then duly ellect a succesor, or an election may not be held until the death of pope Benedict? Who knows where to find the facts? Vincent

  9. Canon 332 No.2 allows for the resignation of the Pope. A number of Popes were either forcibly "retired" or resigned. Pope St. Celestine was thought to have been an inspiration for Pope Benedict's decision since he visited the tomb of the saint and placed the Pallium on the tomb.
    We don't need this information to judge the writings of MDM, there is alsready plenty of other evidence against her.

  14. According to the Church, a Pope must reign until he dies. Pope Benedict is still going strong and he is the true Pope. I believe he was told to resign by the Mason cardinals in the Vatican because of what was in the Vatileaks. I think Pope Francis was their man. Does anyone remember when Cardinal Mahoney stated when he wrote his vote in for Pope, his hand moved to write in Bergoglio and it was his intention to write in another name?

  15. Please show me, in Canon Law, where a Pope is not allowed to resign. The Pope Emeritus was following the example of St. Celestine, who resigned. So, according to you we have a saint who disobeyed the Lord. Do you know who the "Masons" are in the Vatican? I once spoke to an archbishop who did and who is no longer at the Vatican. There is NO evidence of any kind that Pope Francis is a "Mason". That is a slur and a false judgement and is therefore sinful.
